The .45 GAP (Glock Automatic Pistol) cartridge was introduced by Glock in 2003 as an alternative to the .45 ACP cartridge. The goal of the cartridge was to provide the power of the .45 ACP cartridge in a more compact package that could fit into a smaller handgun.
The .45 GAP cartridge fires a .451 caliber bullet with a typical weight of 185 to 230 grains at a muzzle velocity of around 935 to 1,060 feet per second. The cartridge has a slightly shorter overall length than the .45 ACP cartridge, at 0.965 inches, and a rimless, straight-walled case.
The .45 GAP cartridge was specifically designed to be used in Glock pistols, which feature a unique design that allows them to handle higher pressure cartridges than many other semi-automatic pistols. The cartridge has a reputation for providing good stopping power and accuracy in a compact package, and has been used by law enforcement agencies and civilian gun owners for self-defense and concealed carry purposes.
